CollEngWorld: One Month Later

FEBRUARY ACTIVITY REPORT

Our Collaborative Commons initiative has now been up and running for almost a month and we thank you for welcoming us with such enthusiasm.

Our objective is to stimulate involvement in creative activities aimed at giving birth to new ideas by using Targeted Collaboration to make new contacts and set up relationships to actualize an exchange of knowledge on a global scale, so as to indirectly stimulate and enrich our individual professional skills and abilities, thereby amplifying our engineering knowledge at all levels, using cutting-edge IT platforms.

If our individual ideas can take shape and influence the mindset of planners and designers in engineering companies and public administration offices, then available resources can be calibrated in the best and most efficient ways possible. This will improve our specific skills and our awareness of the interests and passions that move our intellect, thereby creating a world more closely aligned to human needs, more attentive to environmental protection, and more attuned to the ways of a galloping global information system.

Points of note:

1)   Over 11,500 views registered so far;

2)   Users from 27 countries and 100 Cities;

3)   Continual improvements to our Website to enhance Usage, Accessibility and Graphics;

4)   Collaborators chosen from the fields of Planning and Design at international level in order to consolidate and improve our Image and Quality of Communication;

5)    These experts measure themselves with the world on a daily basis using the three most widely used languages: ENGLISH, FRENCH and SPANISH;

6)   We publish, share and comment on articles regarding feasible Innovations within our profession;

7)    We have set up a company - TE.x

8)   With TE.x, Our Community provides a real, objective instrument through which we can operate in a multidisciplinary and innovative way with an exponential impact on the international market;

9)   Our initiative has been presented at the most important international forums, arousing curiosity, gathering acclaim,  and consolidating existing partnerships;

10)   We have identified the announced "peer-to-peer" platform which is available for TE.x  activities and which works using the Cloud Computing mechanism and BIM (Building Information  Modeling).

11) A number of operational activities have been implemented including:

  • A competition of ideas for the start-up of an experimental phase for building constructions using 3D Printers;
  • An international competition of ideas involving 27 planners and designers from 25 countries for  the realisation of the external design of the pedestrian area at "Le Vele & Millennium" shopping centre, organized by the community using a major American platform for crowd sourcing. We take this opportunity to thank all the participants, and congratulate the four winners chosen by users of the community and the network, namely:

  • 1st place: Ivana Markovic for Arhitekti Group (Serbia)
  • 2nd place: Maria Sara Scioni (Italy)
  • 3rd place: Gordana Vujasevic (USA)
  • Honorable Mention: Simone Ferreri (Italy).

Thanks to this initiative, major collaboration aimed at studying and testing 3D printing and additive manufacturing technologies, with the same company that owns the platform used to manage the competition, has become a reality;

12) È have activated our Community Dashboard, the fundamental tool used  to identify, filter, track and measure ideas, and turn them into real opportunities

It is clear that in a state of Work in Progress the refinements and improvements still to be made are numerous, but our main goal is to Transform the Force of the Community through Pilot Projects which make use of every single synergy. It will be possible, therefore, to face the challenges that increased Information Processing Speeds offer, the Incessant Evolution of Technology, the Revolution of the Theory of Possibility proposed by Quantum Physics in the world, even in 4D.

"Those who are not shocked when they first come across quantum mechanics cannot possibly have understood it" explains Niels Bohr, as it is not easy to understand the evolution of the mind and the constellations that are created by new ideas.

Our initiatives are sometimes ambitious and sometimes simple and accessible to all of you professionals. They are purely organizational actions such as:

  • Setting up a highly qualified procurement office to systematically access major international tenders.

In this regard, we have arranged to define agreements with  technical and legal experts in the field, together with selecting from amongst yourselves and the companies with whom we have already collaborated . To complete our needs the office will obviously require additional resources to be supplied by the community, not only as group members but also as local support specialists in the Target Countries.

It should be clear that this is not to be seen as a way of profiteering at the expense of local professionals, but more simply as a system by which their work will be supported with modern instruments structured to provide a global vision of  problems by simply sharing knowledge and offering solutions.

Alternative, purely operational initiatives will include:

  • Identifying Target Countries and thoroughly studying their markets and rules.

    Here too, we have collected the results of important sectoral studies (EFCA Report - OICE Report) from which interesting markets can be identified.

We hope to gain deeper insights through more detailed studies carried out directly by local members to obtain immediate and first-hand answers.

In this sense, for example, we are working with Cuba - which is very active in our community, on appropriate engagement action over the coming weeks to increase their future involvement.

We intend to improve the Community so that:L’Operatività sia concreta ed efficace;

  • Efficiency is practical and effective

  • Activities bring about Innovation and are highly advanced from the Technological point of view

  • Activities take into account the real needs of users; to be collected, filtered and interpreted

  • Activities are conducted in the general interests of the collective with a vision which looks to the Future of Humanity and Respect for the Environment

  • In the implementation of REAL Ideas Sharing  the community acts together in their development

To facilitate the above and avoid wasting effort and energy over the coming days we will provide the Community with a number of already executed projects in various fields of engineering. These will allow access to proven solutions in similar situations which can be improved on and adapted as is the case.

It would be desirable for this method of working to become systematic, with the undisputable advantage that everything is done in line with the many sectors of industry where this business model is the standard for success.

The facts show (download here the report on EXO presented at the EFCA BoD meeting in Dublin) that entrepreneurial initiatives that leverage Collaborative Commons are more effective than those implemented by traditional enterprises, which can only rely on the contribution of their domestic labour force.

Over coming weeks we intend to identify  a number of  possible International tenders which could be of interest. Proposals are also welcomed from directly within the community.

To make activities more highly-focused and competitive, we need the contributions of the Community,  both  members and other users, who even though they are non- members are greater in number and have continual access to the site.

These contribution may simply be:

  • Ideas
  • Participation in initiatives
  • Support in increasing the number of subscriptions

The greater the number of REALLY collaborative users, the greater the investment opportunities there will be.

I would also remind you that company subscriptions are welcome and that the following have already adhered:

  • Studio Martini Engineering
  • Consorzio Leonardo
  • Tecnolav
  • TE.x
  • VPS Architetti
  • Architecture Hacker

We plan to increase the number of these subscriptions over the coming days.

We look forward to hearing from you in large numbers over the coming weeks.
